Motorola Droid 4 Launching December 8 2011

CNet is reporting that the droid 4 by Motorola will launch on Verizon Wireless Dec. 8, 2011. This the same reported release date as Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream is said to be. Just in time for the upgrade all the original Droid A855 users need as its been 2 years now.

The Droid 4 will reportedly have Droid Razr styling and run on Verizon's 4G LTE network, but like the previous Droids, it will feature a five-row, slide-out keyboard. It will also sport a four-inch touch screen, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM, a front-facing camera for video chatting, and an 8MP back-facing camera.

There's no indication in the materials which Android version it will run, but if Droid Life's report is accurate, the new smartphone will launch the same day as Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, the new flagship phone for Google's Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

A Motorola representative declined to comment, and Verizon representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

After the Google Motorola Conference Call on August 15, 2011 the over all purpose of the deal is about "Protecting and Extending Android" Is the Main Purpose of Google Motorola Deal.
All the participant came back to the same answer over and over. Android and Motorola are a perfect fit with Google. Being run as separate companies they can protect and build on each other.
Though there are patient and legal issues the focus is on running each business as they are being run now and moving each forward.
When Google acquires Motorola they are also acquiring the patients Motorola has numbering about 17K. These technology patients can and will strengthen Android against threats from other mobile companies.
It was revealed that 560k Android Devices are being activated everyday. This number has grown from 135.000k activations 6 months previous.
If one stands back a little and takes what was said with a grain of salt another theme was playing during the conference call. Google knows Motorola was it the Open Handset Alliance from the start. Motorola has had dips and also almost failed more than once after peaks. Like WW2 Radios and the the 1990s Razar flip Phone the company fell hard. With the relationship about to happen Motorola will be protected from these dips and unforeseen threats.

Google is buying Motorola.

Google is holding a investor web conference at 8:30 AM EST or 5:30 AM PT. All the bosses will be on the call.

Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Google, said, “We expect that this combination will enable us to break new ground for the Android ecosystem. We will continue to work with all of our valued Android partners to develop and distribute innovative Android-powered devices.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals in the US, the European Union and other jurisdictions, and the approval of Motorola Mobility’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2011 or early 2012.

Google will acquire Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share in cash, or a total of about $12.5 billion, a premium of 63% to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

The name sounds like something out of the movie "The Right Stuff". It could be the name of a jet fighter test plane. From what we have seen the Droid X2 performs like one.

Recently some images from Android Forums on Android Central to be the Droid X2 have been making the rounds online. Who's to say if they are real or even mock up phones used for testing. Surely Motorola has the X2 in the making. It follows a pattern from the manufacturer of updating previous models of Droid.

The manufacturers have many reasons to build out second, third or even fourth versions of successful mobile phones. The Droid X Touch Screen device was a big hit at launch like its siblings Droid Original A855 and Droid Incredible. No reason to make up a new name or brand when what you have is working.

Updates in the new wireless devices are more powerful processors and feature like HDMI out. Now that Phone manufacturers have seen how users use these super phones they can add features consumers want.

Hands On Review Of Motorola Droid Pro Phone

We where able to get our hands on a Motorola Droid Pro to review. Though the Pro Phone was under pre order status we received ours 2 days after ordering it online from Verizon. The company has always been good about free shipping and getting pre orders out soon as the inventory is available. Basically Verizon wants to give the online customers all the advantages because it saves them money.
When I first picked up the Droid Pro I was amazed how light it was. Compared tp the A855 or Incredible it is feather weight. The over all form of fight in hand is comfortable and easy to operate with one hand.
The keyboard of the Droid Pro is tiny compared to some business phones like Blackberry, but very usable for business use. The keys are smaller towards the top to make mistakes less likely. The user can fire off a email or text just as fast if not faster than other devices because of fast access to the apps via the touch screen.
The Motorola Droid Pro has the best of both worlds with the full keyboard and touchscreen. The user can hop back and forth between the two and be productive.

As for speed the Droid Pro is off the Google Map when opening pages online in both 3G and Wireless mods. Verizon has just launched LTE 4G in the Boston area (our home city) , but we have not noticed any acceleration as of yet. We are hoping the upcoming Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the LTE 4G will kick the Droid Pro in to high gear.
In conclusion the Droid Pro can surly take market share from Blackberry and RIM, but those use to the later will need time to adjust. Those who are entirely new to Smartphones will gel with this device right away.
