This makes Samsung the first manufacturer to roll out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for its handset, beating HTC and Motorola. Thats if everything go's smooth.

Samsung has officially released the latest version of Android to the user Galaxy S. Accordingly, the Android 2.3 to the Galaxy S is for users in the European region and the user can perform the upgrade through software tools for Samsung Kies. Some users upgrade to first Android 2.3 says all data and user applications remain unchanged and the user interface is now more lag condition. It is not clear when Samsung will release Android 2.3 S Galaxy to users worldwide.

The guys over on XDA Developers have put together resources for the Galaxy S Android 2.3 update.

Google Nexus One GPhone Gets Android Froyo Update

They said the coming days at Google I/O and they meant it. Google's first child has started to expand on Nexus One. The Android 2.2 software update began dropping to the Smartphone May 22, 2010.
The lucky GPhone owners reported getting the update overnight and reports continue to roll in on Twitter and Face Book.
The update was a shock to some especially those who didn't watch The Google I/O Developers Conference. Speaking of Google I/O we have been going through all the news from the gathering and putting together some detailed posts. Hopefully if things slow down some we can get them up. Slowing down doesn't seem to be how Google moves. Optimization and Speed is what its all about these days at the Search Engine.
Remember when downloading OTA Android Updates your phone needs to be charged. If you don't open the update message you should be sent another until you complete it.
We have seen some other tweets and face book post from those who aren't happy that the droid Phones didn't get the Android Update. Don't worry its coming. A couple reasons this happens. Nexus One is Googles favorite child. A large amount of developers use the phone as well. The order if I remember correctly is Nexus One,Verizon Droid and

Google Maps Cycling Directions For Android Gets Software Update

Not a big update for Google Maps for Android, but one cyclists appreciate. Android and Google maps for biking directions was first introduced March 3, 2010. Not really biking season in most places.
Biking directions and extensive bike trail data to Google Maps for the U.S. Biking directions can help you find a convenient and efficient cycling routes that makes use of dedicated bike trails and dedicated lanes that avoids hills when possible. Google Maps makes life easier for bikers, whether they are commuting to work or biking for fun, and it can introduce cycling networks of trails to a whole new audience of cyclists-to-be.
OK lets get to the update
Biking directions
Since launching biking directions on desktop Google Maps, the app was meant to get biking directions, lanes, and trails on your phone too. Just in time for National Bike Month, select the bike icon when getting directions to get an optimal bicycling route in the U.S. If you’re in the mood for a more scenic ride, you’ll also see the Bicycling layer on the map which shows dedicated bike-only trails (dark green), roads with bike lanes (light green), or roads that are good for biking but lack a dedicated lane (dashed green). You can always turn on this layer from the Layers menu to pick your own route. Add in the Labs’ Terrain layer, and you can decide to either climb or avoid that big hill on the way home!
Google Navigation shortcut
If you’re driving instead of riding, we wanted to make it easier and faster for you to get on the road with Google Maps Navigation as soon as you’re ready. With the new Navigation shortcut, you can pick a destination and be on your way with as little as 2 taps of your finger. Select the “Navigation” icon in your phone’s app launcher to get the new destination selection view. Then, speak or type your destination, pick one from your contacts, choose a starred place, or select a recent destination. Navigation will begin and you’re good to go. Make it even easier on yourself by adding the Navigation icon right on your Home screen.
Sharing your routes and trails with others is something we do here. We have been saving hiking and biking trips that we will be sharing with you very soon. Once you figure out where you’re going, why not get some friends to meet you there?
From any search results page, choose to “Share this place” to send that place’s info, such as its address and phone number, to whomever you like. If you want to meet someone on a street corner or gather friends at an outdoor concert, you can also send an exact location from the map -- even a snapshot of your current location. Just use the share option after selecting a point on the map, your “My Location” blue dot, or yourself in Latitude if it’s enabled. Whether you’re sharing a place or a location, you’ll be able to send it to small groups via an email or text message or send it widely with apps like Google Buzz, Facebook, or Twitter.

Motorola Droid 2.1 Manual Update Available For Download

Hurray the Adroid 2.1 Update has begun the Over The Air Release. Though we know the OS update is being distributed the method of the roll out is set on slow. According to reports the launch began with 9000 users and will be distributed in equal quantities until all users have received it. The update rolls out at 200.000 per day and there a 2 million plus Droids. It's possible it could 10 to 14 days before its complete.
There will be a 24 hour break after the initial release to check for issues. This has given those who have received the 2.1 update and make it available for the rest of us.
If you want to do the manual update you first need the Zip file. We have found the file on a few sites. You can check the Motorola Forum or sites like Android Central.

Once you have the file on your computer you then copy it to the root of your Droid. Once that is complete rename the file to update.zip for windows it is just update.
1- With your Droid turned off, hold down the letter "x" on the keyboard and then hold down the power button. You should soon see a triangle with an exclamation point inside.
2- Press the volume up button and the camera button at the same time. (This can take a few attempts.)
3- You should now be in the bootloader. Use the D-pad to choose "update from .zip file" and choose the update. Let the update run. Do not press back or any other keys. Let the download do its thing.
That's it your done.

The update has been smooth for most, but we are going to give the same advice as we did during the 2.0.1 update. If you are just a regular Droid A855 User wait for the 2.1.0 OTA. The OTA is happening. Its been so long whats the rush now?

Motorola Droid To Get Android 2.1 OTA Update – Upgrades Confirmed

March 16, 2010 was a big news day in the Android world. Verizon posted a PDF of what the 2.1 update will have and confirmed Nexus One for Verizon.
As for the update, the Android 2.1 Update PDF has everyone very excited. After all we have all been patently waiting. The document confirms some of what the 2.1 download will have.
To date there is no word on which phones beside Droid will get the update. When we last checked for The Eris their was no PDF. So we can assume this download will only be for Moto Droid.

Verizon Wireless new software updates for your Droid by Motorola smartphone. The Droid by Motorola software version AP: ESE53/BP: C_01.3E.03P update includes numerous enhancements and improvements.

-Pinch-to-zoom is now available when using the browser, Gallery, and Google Maps.™

This confirms many of the updates we dicussed in Android 2.1 OTA Update For Motorola Droid Is Evolution Working and some that werent.

These enhancements will certainly make the user interface on The Motorola Droid better. Combined with the recently release Gesture Search finding everything from contacts to directions should be even easier.

Verizon Hasn't said when the 2.1 Update will arrive VIA OTA. Some supposed evidence is floating around the Internet suggest it could be as soon as March 18, 2010.

If the date is true then its time to get ready. There are some things to keep in mind when the OTA Update arrives in your message box. The procedures will be the same as the Android 2.0.1 OTA Update .

Once you receive the update make sure your phone is powered up. The "Install now" and "Restart & install" options will not be available if your device does not have enough power availability. The system update requires 40% or more power availability if not connected to an external power source and 20% power availability if connected to a power source.

System Update Instructions included for Droid 2.1.1

1. You will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Press "Install now" and your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

Note: If you choose "Install later" this will delay installation and you will be taken back to the home screen. The system update message will appear every 30 minutes until you install the update.

After you've received first notification of the system update you can manually initiate by going to "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates". Press "Restart & install". Your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

When Verizon Wireless released the PDF for the 2.0.1 update the documentation was added to the site 2 day prior to the OTA. If what they have done in the past is any indication we should see Android 2.1 on our mobile phones by the weekend.

Everyone has been patiently waiting for the release of Adobe Flash 10.1. The use of Flash on the Droid will improve user experience even more.

10.1 will have support for many mobile devices, including Super Phones, Smartphones, Netbooks, and other Internet-connected devices being used by consumers today.

Adrian Ludwig demos video and animation on the BBC, The New York Times, and Angry Alien websites on Android using the Verizon Motorola Droid A855.

After 4 years in the making 10.1 is sure to be a hit. Moving from a desktop application to a mobile app is a huge undertaking.

We can only imagine what roll Flash will take when it is combined with the Android 2.1 over air update coming. The UI will likely become more intuitive giving users a more interactive experience.

Notice how Adrian says "This is the first Android 2.0 device with Flash Player 10 on it". Without reading in to this very much it sounds like the Droid will be the first to get 10.1 sent the update, but that's just conjecture.

In any event we can't wait for this function to be available. It won't be long now!
